Our Solar System

The Sun and the planets that travel round it. To move on, click the next platform, or look at it and hold still.

The Sun

  • A star, like the ones you see at night
  • About 109 times wider than the Earth
  • Its light takes about 8 minutes to reach us

The rocky planets

Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are small and made of rock.

Earth

The only planet we know of with life. Most of it is covered by water.

Mars

The red planet. Its colour comes from rust in its dust.

The giant planets

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are huge balls of gas and ice. Jupiter is so big that all the other planets would fit inside it.

Our class gallery

Pupils from Year 5 drew the planets for this room. Which one would you visit?
