Websites
A website is a set of pages, each one a Markdown document. The theme you pick
when you start (such as Starter or School or club) decides the look; you write
the words. The site's name, tagline, email address and web address are set in
Site settings. Everything in the basics works on a page, apart
from highlighting a few words with [words]{.class}.
Pages
Each page is its own file: + Page in the outline adds one. The page's file
name becomes its web address, so a page called about is at about/.
---
title: About us
---
# About us
The Corner Café opened in 2019 on the corner of Mill Street.
What you get: an "About us" page at the address about/, with "About us" in
the menu and in the browser tab.
Page settings
The lines between two --- at the top of a page set it up. title names
the page, description is the line search engines show, and order places
it in the menu.
---
title: Our menu
description: Breakfast, lunch and homemade cakes at the Corner Café.
order: 2
---
# Our menu
What you get: a page that comes second in the menu (after the home page,
which is order: 1), with its description ready for search engines.
Sections
Each ## heading starts a section of the page, and a theme can show each
section as a panel or a card. Add {#name} to give a section a short name to
link to.
# The Corner Café
Fresh coffee and homemade cakes on Mill Street.
## Opening hours {#hours}
Monday to Saturday, 8 till 4.
## Find us {#find-us}
12 Mill Street, next to the library.
What you get: a page with two sections. In the Starter theme each one is a panel of the home page, with a button at the top that jumps to it.
Links between pages
Link to another page of the site by its address. Add # and a section's name
to jump to that section.
See [our menu](menu/) for today's cakes.
Check our [opening hours](./#hours) before you visit.
What you get: a link to the menu page, and a link to the opening hours
section of the home page (./ is the home page).
Pictures
Insert puts a picture from your files on the page for you. You can also write it yourself, with words that describe it.

What you get: the picture on the page, with its description read out to people using a screen reader.
Email links
A mailto: link opens the visitor's email program, ready to write to you.
Want to book a table? [Email us](mailto:hello@example.com).
What you get: an "Email us" link. Jollify writes the address in a way that spam robots find hard to read, but visitors see it as normal.
Tables
A table suits prices, opening times and dates for the diary.
| Event | Date | Time |
|-----------------|-----------|-------|
| Coffee morning | Sat 7 Nov | 10:00 |
| Quiz night | Fri 20 Nov | 7:30 |
What you get: a table with a heading row and two events. The School or club theme shows a table like this as a list of dates.
Footnotes
Put [^1] where a note belongs, and the note on a line of its own starting
[^1]:.
All our cakes are made on site.[^1]
[^1]: Apart from the gluten-free brownies, which come from a local bakery.
What you get: a small number after "on site", and the note at the bottom of the page with a link back.
More
- The basics: lists, pictures, tables, blocks and shapes. A shape needs a theme that loads Jollify's components, as Starter does.
- Try it in the editor: start a new website and paste an example into a page.
